Three dead, many injured in South Korean explosion

SEOUL (Reuters) – Three people died and at least 60 were injured in an explosion at a South Korean defence research institute, local media reported Thursday.

The site is 45 km (28 miles) northwest of Seoul and about 30 km from the heavily defended border with North Korea.

Yonhap news agency said the explosion was at the Agency for Defence Development in Pocheon, which is used to test explosives.

The explosion occurred around 10 a.m. (1 a.m. British time), YTV television said. There was no immediate comment from officials.
